Za sve je kriva jedna fotka: Svjetski brend zasuli kritikama zbog rasizma

Kad su u veljači 2018. prikazane na pisti Tjedna mode u Milanu, nitko nije smatrao da su Guccijeve balaklave odnsono pletene maske za lice rasističke na bilo koji način, a jednu je, kako piše Diet Prada, čak i Rihanna nosila na svom nastupu na Coachelli.

Međutim, ovog je tjedna pažnju korisnika Twittera privukla jedna dolčevita čiji se ovratnik produžuje u balaklavu, a koja nalikuje na Blackface. Blackface je izraz koji se koristi za šminku koju su koristili bijelci kad bi se maskirali u karikature crnaca, a karakterizira ga crno lice i naglašene, obično crvene, usne. (Zbog istog razloga i morčići, motivi hrvatskog tradicijskog nakita s crnim licem i zlatnim ili crvenim usnama, nose rasističku konotaciju.)

Fashion can’t seem to learn from its mistakes. Back in February 2018, dozens of iterations of the balaclava walked the @gucci runway in Milan. Based on vintage DIY knit ski masks, no one clocked them at the time for having any racist connotations…or maybe they went unnoticed among the layers and layers of styling. Rihanna even wore one version just a couple months later at Coachella. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last night though, a knit black turtleneck balaclava with red cut-out lips resembling blackface that wasn’t on the runway, caught twitter’s attention…and Gucci’s almost immediately. Within a few hours, they pulled the sweater from sale and issued an apology. All things considered, it’s probably clear now that these brands are severely lacking the cultural context and knowledge to avoid these same pitfalls. Čim su negativni komentari na Twitteru počeli stizati, na Guccijevom službenom profilu pojavila se isprika. “Gucci se duboko ispričava zbog uvreda koje je izazvao vuneni džemper s balaklavom.” Dodali su i da su zaista posvećeni različitosti u svojoj organizaciji i njenom radu, te su komad odmah uklonili iz prodaje online i u fizičkim trgovinama.
